Adequate
maintenance of Fire Protection Systems is as critical
as the original decision to install them. Because fire
suppression, detection and alarm systems are not generally
used on a routine basis, their state of readiness is
not obvious. However, when these systems are called
upon to work, there is an emergency at hand they must
work properly for the first time. There is no time to
perform maintenance or repairs during the time of emergency.
The
initial acceptance testing of a new system is important
to assure that the system is installed and performing
properly and meeting the performance objectives. Periodic
Inspection, Testing & Maintenace of fire detection
and suppression systems are essential to assure performance
when needed.

Inspection
An inspection is a visual examination by highly trained
professionals to verify and record that the equipment
appears to be in operating condition and free of physical
damage and obstruction. Inspections are typically performed
monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annually. The
result of inspections are logged in a report. Inspections,
when performed, provides tremendous cost saving in maintenance
in the future.

Testing
Tests are required to ensure that the system meets its
original design performance requirements. Tests are
performed by highly trained personnel. Some tests are
performed to check individual components of a larger
system. Tests are typically performed quarterly, semi-annually
and annually. Any component or system that fails a test
require immediate maintenance.
Maintenance
Maintenance
is the work necessary to keep the system in operational
condition. Most often, it is performed during an inspection
or testing. In addition, there are routine periodic
preventive maintenance ( quarterly, semi-annually and
annually) to enhance life of the system thereby reducing
cost in the long run.
